As of this post, Golden Heart Yoga in Annapolis still has a few openings left for its 200 hour RYT (Registered Yoga Teacher) 200 Training Program.

One of the things I’ve always liked about Golden Heart is the consistent quality of their many instructors and classes.  In many other studios and health clubs, one class can be totally different from the next and I rarely just take a class without knowing something about the instructor, their background or their teaching style. Golden Heart is one of the few exceptions, where I feel comfortable taking just about any class/instructor.  I originally tried them out in August when they were running an unlimited Yoga special.  At the time, I was taking Yoga twice a day, so I really got to get a good feel for the studio.  It’s a vibrant studio, has two rooms so two Yoga classes can be given simultaneously and was voted Best of Annapolis in 2006,2007,2008 and 2010.

Training Details

Their training sessions take place one three day weekend, approximately every other month which makes it a convenient option for those who wants to study at a quality local studio, without paying room and board or spending weeks at a time away from their friends and family.  Trainings also include weekly yoga classes during the training which is an good deal, as registering for just one class with one instructor for a session (they have 3 per year) can cost $240 – or more than $700 for the year.   [BTW, GH also offers class cards and drop-in sessions for unregistered students in all their classes]

Also, the training includes a special 5 day session with Rod Stryker (open to the public for $650 before it sold out)

Here’s a brief description of their RYT 200 Program (The RYT stands for Registered Yoga Teacher):

The Immersion into the Yoga Tradition Track 1 is designed for students interested in pursuing RYT®200 accreditation with Yoga Alliance.

This unique program provides a solid philosophical introduction to the Yoga tradition, a preliminary exploration into pranayama, meditation, Sanskrit and subtle anatomy and an overview of Ayurveda. Additionally, you will learn to teach and break down beginner and intermediate level poses including standing poses, backbends, forward bends, twists and restoratives. The program meets seven times over the course of a year.

The curriculum is designed to immerse you in the philosophy and practices of this ancient tradition and to provide you with the fundamental skills necessary to teach. The scheduling of weekends gives you time to process and assimilate the information received each month and to get prepared for the next month.

A highlight of the program are the guest teachers sprinkled throughout the program to enhance your experience. Teachers are chosen for their expertise in certain areas and are well respected throughout the yoga community. Guests for the 2011 program included Yogiraj Rod Stryker, Gary Kraftsow, Linda Howard and more.

Tuition (a payment plan is available) covers all course handouts, teacher training weeks, a 5 day intensive series with Rod Strker, all guest geacher fees, weekly yoga classes during the training and 21 hours of apprenticeships.
